Dining Abroad

Hi guys! Hope you had a great Tuesday! 🙂

I had a glorious nap after class then ran a speedy (for me) 4 miles. I finished in 41:00 minutes. I’m still working on my speed but I really to start adding more distance in if I’m going to run a half marathon at the end of May! Hopefully I can do both of these things successfully without getting injured 🙂

But- enough about me. I want to show you food pictures from London & Paris!

We had some traditional favorites in London- fish & chips, bangers & mash, and a full traditional Irish breakfast at an Irish pub on St. Patrick’s Day (complete with a 9am Guinness!)

The food in London was good but the food in Paris was great! I loved how in both countries lunch was fresh, local, and inexpensive. We bought subs on freshly baked baguettes nearly every day. There is truly nothing like walking into a local bakery, pointing to a freshly made sandwich in a case, and walking out with it for under 4 Euros. The bread was fresh & crusty, the meat and cheese weren’t out of some kind of science experiment, and the people making the food clearly care about their craft. It was incredible and truly made me long for that caring way of food preparation we lack in America.

Fish & chips on our first night in London.

A warm pot of Earl Grey after a cold day of sightseeing.

Bangers & Mash (sausage with mashed potatoes) on a date night with Schock in London

The best Pain au Chocolat & espresso I’ve ever had at a lovely bakery right next to our hotel in Paris. Schock and I enjoyed several snacks and breakfasts here and the wonderful woman behind the counter appreciated my rusty French more than I ever could have hoped.

Schock enjoyed the pizzas they had, freshly pre-made that morning and ready to be toasted up when he stopped in.

Our best meal was when Schock and I had a splurge date night. I was desperate to have a long, traditional French meal at a quaint cafe in the heart of Paris. It was a scene I had built up in my head for months and I’m so glad we were able to experience it. Even if we accidentally ordered giant slabs of beef instead of reasonably sized steaks 😉

We also accidentally ordered mushroom flan as our appetizers. I loathe mushrooms and this was a major mistake on my part. Schock dove right in to his portion though, so I had no choice but to eat mine as well. It actually wasn’t too bad

Our main course was steak & fried potatoes with a small salad on the side. Simple, but easily one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. Between the company, the atmosphere, and the food I was completely in heaven. J’adore Paris 🙂

Easily the biggest steak I have ever seen in my life. It was crazy.

Other notable snacks included crepes & nutella, varios pastries & sandwiches I consumed wile walking around, and classic French macarons in a beautiful variety of colors- I can’t believe I never snapped a picture of the gorgeous displays in nearly every bakery

A delicious crepe loaded with nutella & an equally wonderful strawberry macaron

And, a cheese-covered hot dog Schock enjoyed after the Louvre

Overall, the food in London and Paris was wonderful and I’m now plotting my return on a daily basis. The baguettes are calling my name! 🙂

Well, time to get more work done (and dream of French pastries). Have a great night!

Back From Vacation

Hi Guys! Sorry it’s been a million years since my last post. We had an amazing time traveling to Europe. I loved London and I am now obsessed with Paris. If I could move there right now, I would 🙂

We got back last Tuesday at 3 in the morning. Yuck! Between jet-lag, being awake for 28 hours straight, and a terrible cold I was basically wiped out all week. It was totally worth it- don’t get me wrong, but it was a rough way to jump back into school!

Unfortunately, blogging took a big hit. But don’t worry- we took tons of pictures that I’ll be sharing with you guys. I also documented all of my best meals so you can see what we ate on the trip. The food in Europe is about a hundred times better than what we eat here on a daily basis and I still keep yearning for it a week later!

I’m still battling this cold so I’m going to bed earrrly tonight but I’ll leave you with some pictures and fill in more tomorrow + get back to the usual shenanigans & meals.

Hope you all had a great, relaxing weekend! Enjoy the pictures of yours truly 🙂

Almost Ready…

Happy Spring Break friends! 🙂 We’re almost ready to go on our trip. I can hardly even handle the excitement!

I’m all packed- I think. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

I have the essentials:

  • clothes
  • adapter
  • umbrella
  • passport
  • camera
  • toiletries
  • money
  • ipod & books
  • snacks

I thought it might be fun to share some of my travel essentials, so I took some pictures 😀

Hair spray, wrinkle release, shampoo, body wash, etc.

Toothpaste, mouthwash, a weird scent of perfume that will just have to cut it, and Febreeze

Travel toothbrush, deodorant, benadryl, floss, q-tips, and a razor

But, can’t forget the snacks!

Clif bars, Larabars, packets of AmazingGrass. Packing snacks is a must for me since I get ferocious snack attacks when no one else does. Don’t want my travel buddies to kill me! haha

I think that about rounds it out.

Please, everyone, take note that for the first time ever I am going on a trip with one pair of shoes. We’ll see how it goes 😉   I’m kiiiinda worried haha

Well, I’m off to read a book (not a text book) and watch Sex & the City the movie (the first one) for a bout the millionth time. Have a great night everyone

And let me know if you have any tips!!!
